1. Wearing a helmet

2. A-B-C Checking your bike before every ride

  • (Air-Brakes-Chain/Cranks/Handlebars/Stem/Quick Releases)

3. Learning and practicing bike handling skills

  • starting/stopping off the saddle, slalom, quick stop

4. Optimizing bike fit and seat height

5. Understanding and following the BIG4 rules of the road

  1. Ride the same direction as other traffic

  2. Stop at stop signs and red lights

  3. Riding on the sidewalk is illegal for anyone over 6 years old.

    • For young children who are learning balance and control, riding on the sidewalk is allowed (PA law permits sidewalk riding for children age 6 and younger) at walking speed. Dismount at crosswalks.
  4. Use lights and reflectors when riding at night
