Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative eNews – Sat. October 19, 2013

The Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative (BBC) is an educational bike shop open for members and guests Thursdays from 5PM to 9PM and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM. The BBC is here to help you enjoy the trip more than ever.

Master bicycle mechanic, Frank Pavlick, with 30 years experience in the bicycle business, will be in after 10AM today. Come have your bike touched by the wrenchgod.

Bicycle Heaven Ride:

Our featured destination today is Cafe the Lodge in South Bethlehem. The only business with direct access to the Greenway. Ride with us and receive a 10% discount on your food and beverage.

Have a certified instructor come to your home, check you bike and ride with you to Cafe the Lodge. All for $5! Call 610 954 5744 to make arrangements.

As an alternate location, learn to ride to SteelStacks and the ArtsQuest Center, from your home, to visit the trade show associated with this weekend’s running events.

Today we offer a FREE helmet for any child under 10 who comes in with a parent/guardian and bicycle.

Guest passes are just $5 for an individual and $10 for a family today!

Today’s Bicycle Quotation:

“Whenever a motorist has anything to say to me while I’m driving my bicycle, I always wish them a great day. I try to remember that they’re driving; how stressful and aggravating that is. So I forgive any rude and silly behaviors on their part.”

* If you have a favorite quotation or an interesting story about cycling please share as a comment below and maybe next week we will feature it in our post :)

Using the tools and supplies in the BBC today.

Frank Pavlick is changing the lubricant in his internal shifter because the grease that came with the unit on the bike will freeze if it gets much colder.

Frank evaluated the derailleur on Dave Trautmann’s wife’s bike.

Frank helped Janneke Bos clean up some issues on her bike. Turns out she needs a new rear wheel, cassette, chain and crank set. Janneke is putting a milk crate on the back of her bike, too, so she’s doing that first so she can carry the parts back from the bike shop.

Janneke’s bike after the drive train and rear wheel are all replaced.

The BBC offers education classes, Bicycle Heaven Rides and the Bicycle Library program.
