Today’s Bicycle Quotation:“Only one in every 3,000 commuters in our region travels to work by bicycle. Our question? Does cycling for transportation make you exceptional or does being exceptional result in your cycling for transportation?”

* If you have a favorite quotation or an interesting story about cycling please share as a comment below and maybe next week we will feature it in our post :)

Members use BBC Tools with mechanic assistance:

Dave Trautmann is on another long bike ride for his vacation (300 miles).  He went over his bike with Shop Manager, Frank Pavlick, to make sure everything is set-up properly and he doesn’t face any immediate issues while so far from home.  See his photo album on facebook.

Steve Schmitt pumped up his tires and cleaned/lubed his chain.

Janneke Bos returned a library bike used by her son and conducted routine maintenance on her bike.

The BBC offers education classes, Bicycle Heaven Rides and the Bicycle Library program.

Bike Education:

Basic Bicycle Education

Lynda Moore came in with her Grandson Driftin Monetti to check out his bike and take basic bicycle education.  Scott Slingerland went over Driftin’s bike with him.

Today we offer a FREE helmet for any child under 10 who comes in with a parent/guardian and bicycle.

The B.O.B. trailer is a great way to haul whatever you need, especially on a trail or other narrow route.
The recumbent bike is available right now. An excellent option for a CAT member to try upon returning to cycling after work on their back.

The 10AM ride is to the Arts District Farmers’ Market in South Bethlehem.

Today’s 2PM ride is for some watermelon, somewhere.

This week’s donations:

The BBC accepts donations of bicycles, bike parts, tools and supplies on Thursdays from 5-9PM and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM at 1935 W Broad St. in Bethlehem. We provide a receipt for all contributions and we are a 501(c)3 educational charity under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Pete Garland and his wife donated two very old schwinns.  One of them is in very good condition.  He’s coming back later with two other bikes.  They are from Hanover Township, Northampton County. Pete just brought in two more bikes.

John Zachman brought in a road bike for donation.

Lynda Moore donated some shelving for the bathroom.

Recent Visitors:

John Erikson came in and talked with Scott and Steve for an hour. He wants to resume life as a cycling commuter.  He has a bike built by Frank Pavlick but it has a bad rear wheel. He is headed towards buying a bike and wants more information about how he can fit the BBC into his life.

Andeana Gonzales, a film maker studying at Northampton Community College came by recently and interviewed Steve, Lee and Derek.

Andeana made this film: CAT-Coalition for Appropriate Transportation

Khiem Vo started his community service to graduate from Freedom High School.  He is pretty good with the computer and is already working on this report.  He is helping with the map of the Shared Lane Markings in Allentown.  He is learning to ride a bicycle in traffic, too.

Khiem and Steve are ready for a ride outside the BBC
