Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative eNews – Sat. June 22, 2013

The Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative (BBC) is an educational bike shop open for members and guests Thursdays from 5AM to 9PM and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM.

Today we offer a FREE helmet for any child under 10 who comes in with a parent/guardian and bicycle.

Guest passes are just $5 for an individual and $10 for a family today!

Today’s Bicycle Quotation:

“The bicycle is a curious vehicle. Its passenger is its engine.” John Howard

 * If you have a favorite quotation or an interesting story about cycling please share as a comment below and maybe next week we will feature it in our post :)

Members use BBC Tools with mechanic assistance:

Gary Warren came in with a few broken spokes on his rear wheel.  Ended up replacing the wheel with a used wheel.  Helped by Scott Slingerland and Lee Poole-Smith.  Had to change from a seven speed to six speed rear derailleur, too.

Our new Assistant Director of Operations, Lynda Moore, brought in her bike, a Giant hybrid purchased at Curt’s Cyclery.  Lee and Scott went over her bike.  They adjusted the brake and derailleur cables, the head set, trued the wheels and cleaned/lubed the drive train.

Steve Schmitt lubed and cleaned his drive train, replaced the batteries on pumped up his tires to prepare for some long rides

The B.O.B Ilbex Trailer is ready for borrowing.  It comes with a special quick release axle for your bike so it’s easy to put the trailer on and off your bike.

The BBC offers education classes, Bicycle Heaven Rides and the Bicycle Library program.

The B.O.B. trailer is a great way to haul whatever you need, especially on a trail or other narrow route.

The recumbent bike is available right now. An excellent option for a CAT member to try upon returning to cycling after work on their back.

This week’s donations:

The BBC accepts donations of bicycles, bike parts, tools and supplies on Thursdays from 5-9PM and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM at 1935 W Broad St. in Bethlehem. We provide a receipt for all contributions and we are a 501(c)3 educational charity under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

John Schubert donated a B.O.B Ibex Suspension Trailer many years ago.  It is still in excellent shape and is now available again to CAT/BBC members for borrowing.  Great for camping on the trail.

Lynda Moore donated a micro wave oven.

John Zachman donated two bikes, some tires and other parts.

Right now we are also hoping someone will donate a work sink we can install in the BBC.

Recent Visitors:

Andeana Gonzales, a film maker studying at Northampton Community College came by recently and interviewed Steve, Lee and Derek.

Khiem Vo started his community service to graduate from Freedom High School.  He is pretty good with the computer and is already working on this report and correcting some problems with previous reports.
