Today’s Bicycle Quotation:

“The bicycle also uses little space. Eighteen bikes can be parked in the place of one car, thirty of them can move along in the space devoured by a single automobile. It takes three lanes of a given size to move 40,000 people across a bridge in one hour by using automated trains, four to move them on buses, twelve to move them in their cars, and only two lanes for them to pedal across on bicycles. Of all these vehicles, only the bicycle really allows people to go from door to door without walking. The cyclist can reach new destinations of his choice without his tool creating new locations from which he is barred.” Ivan Illich

Bike Library Activity (See what’s available now!)

Gary Lader brought his Biachi library bike to the BBC.  He got help from Lee Poole-Smith re-syncing his bike computer.  Gary also cleaned and lubed his chain.  He talked to Steve about putting a milk crate on the back of his bike.  Steve said it takes about an hour, so Gary said he would come back another day to put the crate on the bike.

Julie Vitale brought her Speacialized library bike in.  She told Steve she keeps having flats on the rear wheel.  Steve inspected the bike, cleaned and lubed the drive train.  He readjusted the rear brakes.  The rear tire did not go flat during the time the bike was in the shop this evening.

This week’s donations:

The BBC accepts donations of bicycles, bike parts, tools and supplies on Thursdays from 5-9PM and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM at 1935 W Broad St. in Bethlehem. We provide a receipt for all contributions and we are a 501(c)3 educational charity under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Right now we are also hoping someone will donate a work sink we can install in the BBC.

Recent Visitors:

Julie drops her bike off because of a reoccurring flat tire.

Jamie Blair bought a one-day pass.  She had a new front wheel.  Lee helped her replace it.  Steve found her a used tire that was in a little better shape than the one she was using.  Steve showed Jamie how to clean and lube her drive train.  Lee Poole Smith trued her rear wheel, and rebuilt the rear wheel hub.  We also put a rear brake assembly back on the bike.  Quite the bargain for $5!
