“Meet the future; the future mode of transportation for this weary Western world. Now I’m not gonna make a lot of extravagant claims for this little machine. Sure, it’ll change your whole life for the better, but that’s all.”

Members use BBC Tools with mechanic assistance:

Last week Derek Vacchino and Lee Poole-Smith work on Derek’s BMX freewheel

Steve worked on his road bike, filling the tires and cleaning/lubing the chain.  He is hoping to have it checked over by Frank Pavlick.  Steve looks forward to a long road bike season ahead.

The BBC offers education classes, Bicycle Heaven Rides and the Bicycle Library program.

Bike Education:

Basic Bicycle Education

Jeff Vitelli learned how to tell if a bike fits, to do a quick check of the tires, brakes and bearings on a bike.  Also to start and stop correctly, about correct cadence, plus shift his rear derailleur.

Traffic Skills 101

Jeff Vitelli took a ride with LCI Steve Schmitt.  Jeff learned to avoid the door zone, to ride predictably.  To scan before moving laterally on the road.  How to yield when coming to an intersection with a busier road with no signage.  Jeff discussed using a mirror and maintaining flexibility.

Basic Bicycle Mechanics

Steve Schmitt explained bearings and the 12 bearing rings on every bike to Jeff Vitelli.

Cycle Safety Assessment
