Members use BBC Tools with mechanic assistance:

Julie Vitale helps with the monthly check-up of her BBC library bike.

Once again tires pumped, chain lubed, brake pads checked on Steve’s bike.

Lee Poole-Smith is installing a new hub on his rear wheel.  He decided he wanted to try a new silent clutch.  He also checked the disc brakes.

Scott worked on a silencing creaky late-model XT crankset with a 30 X 1mm lockring securing the chainrings.

Scott also rebuilt his headset.

Scott performed a monthly check-up on Julie Vitale’s library bike.  She also got a new helmet.  The basket was falling off her bike and Lee Poole-Smith reattached it.

Joe Amedeo put reflective tape on his folding bike.  He also got some help from Scott and Lee with some emergency adjustments.

The BBC offers education classes, Bicycle Heaven Rides and the Bicycle Library program.

Bike Education:

Basic Bicycle Education

Justin Strasser was in with his daughters Amelia and Quinn.  The Strassers took advantage of the $10 family one-day membership and Amelia got a new helmet in just her size.

Liam de Camp tried a child’s mountain bike in the bicycle library but he’s not quite ready for it yet.

Bicycle Heaven Ride:

Today’s 10AM ride is to the native plant sale at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Center Street in beautiful downtown Bethlehem.  Steve got some black eyed susans and a weird ground cover plant.

Today’s 2PM ride is to Lehigh Canal Towpath.

New & Renewing Members:

The Strasser Family (one-day membership).

Julie Vitale paid for 4 months of library bike.

Joe Amedeo paid for a one day pass.

Gary Shankweiler donated two very clean mountain bikes.  One had two new tires on it.

The BBC accepts donations of bicycles, bike parts, tools and supplies on Thursdays from 5-9PM and Saturdays from 8AM to 4PM at 1935 W Broad St. in Bethlehem. We provide a receipt for all contributions and we are a 501(c)3 educational charity under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Right now we are also hoping someone will donate a work sink we can install in the BBC.

Wayne Stout and his five year old grandson came in.  The boy wanted to ride out on a trek mtn bike that was just a bit much for him.  He is still riding a tricycle and can’t quite reach the pedals on his big wheel.  He is coming back with his tricycle and Mom to get the basic bike ed.  Wayne used to bike to work all the time but has family issues that require him to come home quickly at times.  Steve suggested he use the money he saves by biking to work to create a taxi account to take a cab home in emergencies.

Aaron Renee came in with a young man.  They inquired about bicycle education.  Steve explained the $10 family guest pass.  They are going to come back to take the basic bike ed class which includes a FREE helmet, helmet fitting, information about bike type and fit, quick pre-ride safety check, basic skills course and emergency stop.  She asked about used bikes and Steve told her about the used bike program at Genesis.
