Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative eNews – Saturday May 5, 2012

 

Schwartz family enjoying bicycle education with Scott & Betty.

The Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative (BBC) is open for Members and Guests every Thursday from 5-9pm and Saturday from 8AM to 4PM. We are located at 14 West Raspberry in beautiful, downtown Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The Bicycle Heaven Ride at 10AM today travels from the Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative along the Road Ride Test Route, about 5 miles in a loop over the Fahy Bridge through South Bethlehem, back over the Minsi Trail Bridge and returning to the BBC.  Gary Warren went on the ride with Scott Slingerland.

Bicycle Heaven Ride to Elias Farmers Market

The Bicycle Heaven Ride at 2PM today travels from the Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative to the  Elias Farmers Market.  Dan, Noelle, Benton & Dmitri Schwartz rode with Scott Slingerland, Joyce Marin and Betty Kelly.

Anyone going on any Bicycle Heaven Ride will receive a FREE bicycle safety check.

CAT members using BBC Tools with mechanic assistance:

Dan, Noelle, Benton & Dmitri had basic safety checks on their bikes.

Mike Brown is putting a bunch of new stuff on his bike with Frank Pavlick’s help in preparation for a cross country ride in three weeks.

Mark Gatti swapped out his tires to go with more of a road tire.  Lee Poole-Smith helped him out.

Josh Buck fixed a flat tire on his nephew’s bike and added reflective tape to his son’s library bike.

Bike Education:

The Schwartz family went through the basics, helmet fit, bike fit, bike type, bike safety check, starting/stopping, basic skills course.

Scott Slingerland provides training for road riding for the Schwartz family.

The Schwartz family took their learn to ride on the trail ride from Betty Kelly.

The Schwartz family signed up for the next basic bicycle mechanics class.

Mark Gatti learned a lot about changing his tires/tubes.

Conor Howland learned how to lube the chain on his library bike.

Mike Brown took advanced bike mechanics from Frank last month, but he got a refresher course and learned some new stuff from his one on one experience today.

Gary Warren took his road test from Scott and passed with flying colors.

Bike Library Activity:

Conor Howland brought in his library bike for its monthly maintenance and renewal.  Scott Slingerland inspected the bike for damage and wear. Scott adjusted the rear brakes and sent it home with Conor for another month.

John Parker returned a road bike he borrowed to ride with friend last Sunday.  He said they rode 60 miles together.

Pat & Sandy Corpora are using two bikes today to ride the towpath with visitors to Bethlehem.

Ron Teodora did his usual great job of cleaning up the place.

Lee Poole-Smith designed a two to a page poster for the Monocacy Way 5K Run.

Weather Today: 63 degrees @ 9AM,  degrees @ 1PM, bright sunshine, 7 mph NE winds and 94% humidity, air quality good for both particulate and ozone
