The Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative (BBC) is open for Members and Guests every Saturday from 8AM to 4PM. We are located at 14 West Raspberry in beautiful, downtown Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
CAT members using BBC Tools with mechanic assistance:
Scott and Steve talked to a visitor, Daniel, who rode in on a 4-wheeled pedalcycle. They discussed riding
legally and effectively, as well as the amazing efficiency and simplicity of a bicycle over other types of vehicles.
Meg Buck and LCI Steve Schmitt took a Bicycle Heaven Ride to the Bethlehem Area Public Library. The bike rack at the library already had two bikes in it when they arrived.
Steve went on another Bicycle Heaven Ride at 2PM to the CVS on 8th Avenue. He picked up some rubbing alcohol for cleaning wheel rims.
Josh Buck changed the rear brake pads on his commuter road bike – then adjusted the front brake cable tension to optimize safety performance.
Meg Buck wanted to get rid of the horrible squealing sound her rear brake was making. Lee Poole-Smith examined them and discovered the rims were very dirty. He cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and problem solved.
New & Renewing Members:
Lee Poole-Smith donated 4 rechargeable double A batteries and a charger for them. These are for the new front headlights we bought for the Library Bikes.
Meg Buck donated some outrageous cookies.
Scott Slingerland brought some tomato bread.
CAT Member Bob Peruzzi visited with his wife, Esther, to pick up his super-reflective black CAR-FREE.ORG hoodie. Bob discussed his current passion of playing his trombone with the Barrel House Band, and his plans to ride his bike more in the future.
League of American Bicyclists certified Cycling Instructor(s) on duty:
Scott and Steve talked about the 12 bicycle education events that are already on the calendar for the Lehigh Valley in early Spring.
- J. Reisenberger
The LCIs had a lively discussion about the new bicycle law.
- Steve Schmitt
- Scott Slingerland
- Lee Poole-Smith worked in the shop on a million different things as usual. He lubricated some cables on the training bikes. He was involved in the discussion of where to put the yellow reflective tape on the library and training bikes. Lee worked on other member bikes including the bucks, steve schmitt’s. Lee also is very involved in the lighting system work for library bikes. Today he continued that work by bringing in rechargeable batteries and a charger for the front headlights we bought from Performance. Lee does most of the research on the lights we buy.
- Ron Teodoro
Did his usual perfect job of vacuuming, sweeping and emptying the garbage containers.
- J. Reisenberger worked on some training bikes. He cleans them and applies the new reflective yellow tape to the sides of the stays and tubes. J. is also helping with the Bicycle Education for Enforcement Officers classes this Friday. He is very concerned with the new so-called Bicycle Law.
- CAT Board Member John Tocado came in and talked with Steve about a presentation to the Lion’s Club of Easton about the Adopt-a-Bus Stop program. He also heard an explanation of CAT’s Bicycle Library Bikes.
- CAT Vice-President Roy Young came in to talk to Steve about the continuing plans for the Annual Meeting.
