At Monday’s Lehigh Valley Transportation Study meeting at the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission LANta Planning Director Owen O’Neil announced the transportation authority ordered 10 new hybrid buses. Like the current hybrid buses in the LANta fleet, these buses run on electric batteries at low speeds.
The hybrid bus is quieter at bus stops and emits no air pollution at low speeds. The hybrid bus also gets about 50% better fuel efficiency, too. The new buses are expected to be delivered in January of 2013. LANta hopes to convert the entire fleet to hybrid buses over the next decade.
