Bicycle Education for Enforcement Personnel

More people are riding bikes than ever before.  These numbers will climb dramatically this Spring.   Maybe it’s the price of gas, the desire for a healthier lifestyle or concern for the environment that is putting more cyclists on the road.  It doesn’t matter.  Our enforcement officers need to know the law as it applies to cycling in traffic more than ever.

This locally offered 2-hour course at the Bethlehem Police Training Center, taught by League of American Bicyclists’ certified Cycling Instructor Steve Schmitt, goes over the basics and answers all your questions. Based on the PA Bicycle Drivers Manual and responsive to current vehicle code issues such as House Bill 170 that becomes law  April 2, 2012.

Your police department can avoid problems regarding these new laws by learning from experts who teach safe, legal cycling on our roadways & trails.

18 Enforcement Officers from Bethlehem. Emmaus, Coplay and Coopersburg attended the first classes on Friday March 9, 2012 at the Bethlehem Police Training Facility on Guetter Street in Bethlehem.  More class times will be scheduled as demand requires.

Course Syllabus

The cost is $50 per person; we will bill your department.  We are offering this course FREE to one officer from each department in the region to ensure every department is represented.  For more information or to register for a class email director@car-free.org today.
