BICYCLE
RECYCLING PROGRAM
CAT
accepts bicycles at the Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative (BBC) on Saturdays from 9
A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and on Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Bicycles
are treated like gold here at CAT. We recycle more than 50 bicycles
directly back into the community each year as part of our barter bike
program. Usually someone buying a used bike from CAT doesn’t use cash,
they work off the cost by helping to keep the busiest bus stop in the Lehigh
Valley, at Broad &
Guetter, clean and safe. We also use the opportunity to give these
new riders, helmets and bicycle safety classes.
Some
bikes are not as desirable here in this region or would take more mechanic time
to fix than is practical. These bikes are sent to a Third World
country. Currently CAT is working with the "Bikes for Africa"
campaign with The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP).
Of
course, some bikes that come our way have very little value as bicycles
anymore, but we still strip them of all useable parts and accessories before
disposing of the various component materials such as rubber, steel and aluminum
appropriately.
You
can be certain that your used bicycle is optimally recycled. We take care
of hundreds of used bicycles every year.
Here is a picture
of our bicycle recycling center. Thank
you for considering CAT as your bicycle recycling option.
