BICYCLE
COMMUTER FACILITY
CAT
operates a facility for bicycle commuters in downtown Bethlehem, called the Bicycle Commuter Facility or BCF. The BCF was
built using Federal Highway Administration enhancement dollars in cooperation
with our transit company, LANTA. The BCF is
intended no only to improve bicycle commuting into Bethlehem, but use of the
LANTA system also, as the bus company has its largest terminal just outside the
building.
The BCF includes indoor secure parking for bicycles, lockers, showers for men and women, bathrooms, sink and bike wash. Members may use the Park Tools in the Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative when the shop is not otherwise in use.
Fees
are $500 a year or $200 a year plus 3 hours of community service each
month. There is a $50 deposit.
During
2003 more than 200 people used the BCF in one
way or the other. The most popular
feature is the bike wash.
There
are about a dozen hard core commuters who use the facility on a regular basis.
In
2003, Sungard Pentamation Incorporated joined the BCF
with a corporate contribution allowing any and all employees to use the
facility at no additional charge beyond a $20 deposit for the keys. 5 Sungard Pentamation employees were regular
users in 2003.
