State DCED grants CAT $5,000 for Bicycle Education

With assistance from Pennsylvania State Representative, Steve Samuelson, CAT-Coalition for Appropriate Transportation is to receive $5,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development for Bicycle Education programming.  CAT uses its LOVE YOUR LOCAL TRAIL DAY, October 29, 2005, to announce this show of support by State government in CAT’s eight bicycle education programs.

“Bicycle education is the only way to preserve and promote serious use of the bicycle for transportation,” says CAT Director, Steve Schmitt.  “CAT has worked with the League of American Bicyclists to certify 25 local bicycle instructors over the last five years.  We also teach bike mechanics, plus classes for beginners & experienced riders and provide expert guidance to municipalities and other organizations trying to improve cycling in the region.”  Schmitt is a League Cycling Instructor and Instructor Trainer.

“CAT has been working for better bicycling for many years,” adds State Representative, Steve Samuelson.  “I am pleased to be able to help CAT continue to educate more cyclists.”  The grant was approved by State Secretary of Community and Economic Development, Dennis Yablonsky, after submission through Samuelson’s office.

LOVE YOUR LOCAL TRAIL DAY is celebrated every time there are five Saturdays in one month on the fifth Saturday.  “That’s four times a year that we ask Lehigh Valley residents to get out and love their local trail,” says Schmitt.  “Take a walk, jog or bike down your favorite linear park.”  For more information or to find out where your local trail is located, check out lvbike.info on the web, that’s www.lvbike.info.
