CAT’s Bicycle Recycling Program
Thank
you for considering recycling as an option for your used bicycle, parts,
accessories and tools. This service is
extended to CAT members only. To join CAT
you must fill out an application and pay your annual membership fee of
$25/individual or $50 per family.
Memberships is good for one year.
Benefits include use of the Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative, our Park Tool
set, bicycle maintenance supplies, access to our used parts & accessories
inventory, bike wash and indoor bicycle parking on Thursday evenings and
Saturdays. If you are not a CAT member
you may leave bicycle donations behind our facility on Raspberry Street, but we
will not give you a receipt or be able to provide information about what
happens to the donation.
CAT
accepts bicycles at the Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative (BBC) on Saturdays from 9
A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and on Thursdays from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M.
Your
bicycles are treated like gold here at CAT. We recycle more than 50
bicycles directly back into the community each year as part of our barter bike
program. We also sell another 20-30 bikes as part of our BikeEd
program. Usually someone buying a used
bike from CAT doesn’t use cash, they work off the cost by helping to keep the
busiest bus stop in the Lehigh Valley, at Broad & Guetter, clean and
safe. We also use the opportunity to give these new riders, helmets and
bicycle education.
We
give or sell some used bikes to other organizations that we can’t use
ourselves. Any money raised is used for
our Bicycle Education
programs.
Of
course, some bikes that come our way have very little value as bicycles
anymore, but we still strip them of all useable parts and accessories before
disposing of them appropriately.
You
can be certain that your used bicycle is optimally recycled. We take care
of hundreds of used bicycles every year.
