CERTIFIED BICYCLE EDUCATION CLASSES
All CAT bicycle courses are taught by League of American Bicyclist (LAB) certified Instructors. The LAB bicycle safety classes for children and adults are the only nationally recognized bicycle education program. The LAB represents the interests of the nation's 42.4 million bicyclists. With a current membership of 300,000 affiliated cyclists, including 40,000 individuals and 600 organizations, the LAB works to bring better bicycling to your community.

Great for anybody, especially those about to buy a
bike, about to ride for the first time in a long time, or for parents who want
their child's first cycling experience to be a happy one. We will make sure your helmet and bike fit
you. We will help you learn the
essential parts of the bike for safe operation.
Use our traffic free basic skills course to acquaint (or re-acquaint)
yourselves with riding a bike safely. Free helmets if you need one.

For children over 10 and guardian or teenagers to
learn to ride in traffic. Basic Bike education in 1 hour is a required
(see class description above.) We learn
to ride confidently in this class. Learn
to avoid typical hazards, to ride in the correct lane, the correct lane
position and all about traffic law.
Includes emergency maneuvers. Perfect for a parent
with a teenager just learning to ride in the street.

teenagers will come back multiple times before they are safe to ride on their
own in the street.

Learn
basic bicycle safety on the roadway, for ages 10 to 100. Graduates can ride
confidently almost anywhere. 9-hour course. Class size
limited to 10 riders. All regularly
scheduled classes run from 9:00 A.M. to Noon on the first, second and third
Saturdays of every month. Testing is
the fourth Saturday; certification in League of American Bicyclist Road One for
all over 16 who pass the Cycle Safety Assessment (see below), Kids Two
certification for those under 16. (Those 10 to 16 usually require additional
time on the road with adult supervision before they can pass the assessment and
gain our approval for riding alone in the street.)
· 1st visit - fitting the helmet, choosing the right bike & adjusting the bike personally, identifying essential bicycle parts & conducting a safety check, plus basic skills assessment & training.
· 2nd visit - understanding traffic, entering the traffic stream, and proper position in the roadway, emergency procedures.
· 3rd visit –
left turns, complex intersections, mechanic
instruction, and safety on the path.
Classes: April 5, 12 and 19;
May 3, 10 & 17; June 7, 14 & 21; July 5, 12 & 19; August 2, 9 &
16; September 6, 13 & 20; and October 4, 11 & 18.

If you are
a very experienced cyclist, try the Cycle Safety Assessment (below) to find out
what, if any part, of the Cycle Safely Anywhere classes you may need.

maximize safety for the serious rider. These tests are a must for those
who ride every day to work or who lead others while riding. The
40-minute video (optional), 25-question written exam & 5 mile road test
will identify any weak points in your knowledge of bicycling.
Fee:
$40 or 4 hours working for CAT (This Assessment is the same testing for the
Road One Ride Confidently Anywhere Class).
Testing
free for any Police Officers, Lehigh Wheelmen Ride Leaders or Valley Mountain
Bikers Bike Patrol members thanks to a grant from the State of Pennsylvania
arranged by State Representative Steve Samuelson.
April 26, May 24, June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27 or October 25. Noon to 4 PM.
Twelve hour course: Great overview of bicycle
maintenance. Learn about tires and tubes.
Brakes, and gear adjustments are demonstrated, discussed, and worked on
by participants. Learn to adjust
bearings, remove cogs, service chains, adjust brakes & adjust gears. (CAT volunteer mechanics must complete this
class before working on any bikes.)

For
those who want certification and insurance while teaching bicycle safety. Three
days of instruction by a League certified trainer give you the confidence and
the liability coverage you need when teaching bicycle education.
