12th Annual
RIDE THE RIGHT WAY DAY

Sponsored by Genesis Bicycles
April 14, 2008

Kicking off this year’s bicycle education season.

The Lehigh Valley police departments, bike shops and League of American Bicyclists certified Cycling Instructors celebrate Ride the Right Way Day to remind everyone that cyclists should travel the same direction and obey/enjoy the same rights/responsibilities as any other vehicle on the roadway.

(Standing from left to right) Officer Brooks Kranich of Forks Township Police Department, Bethlehem Bicycle Cooperative Shop Manager & League Cycling Instructor Frank Pavlick; Genesis Bicycle Shop Assistant Manager and League of American Bicyclists certified Cycling Instructor, Mary Merritt; CAT Assistant Director, Robin Spilner; The Source Bike Shop Owner, Mike McCafferty; and (Seated, left to right) CAT Board Member, Wendy Riedy; Forks Township Police Officer, T. Steven Nicholson; and LANTA Bus Operator, Calvin Wexler at the Ride the Right Way Day Luncheon held to highlight the importance of legal, safe bicycle behavior to the community.

Spring means more bicyclists on the road.  CAT is the one stop shop for all bicycle education needs, with classes on everything from the basics to becoming a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor.  See CAT’s complete list of bicycle education courses for more information:  http://www.car-free.org/BIkeSomewhereToday/2008safe.htm

CAT provides literature and assistance to all those interested in bicycle education and bicycle culture.  We have distributed more than 10,000 hard copies of the Pennsylvania Bicycle Drivers Manual through bike shops and police departments.  This is the best document available when a member of the public asks for the rules for riding a bicycle on the roadway.  Bulk copies are available now for your organization.

In addition, CAT runs classes for any size group with any bicycling goals, reaching thousands of children and adults over the past decade.  Call us today for details.  Our newest class this year is motorist education.  Limit your liability and increase your drivers’ confidence level with our 1 hour program to help your employees deal with the rapidly increasing number of cyclists on the road.  This class is tailored specifically for different types of drivers, such as police officers, school bus operators and truckers.  610 954 5744.  As the price of gas goes up the number of bicyclists on the road increases.  Be prepared!

As the desire for greater physical activity, more transportation options and a higher quality of life despite increasing fuel prices becomes stronger in our neighborhoods, CAT has developed a comprehensive approach to increasing safe and legal cycling in any community.  Our slide presentation of Bicycle Heaven in Bethlehem will show you a powerful four-point program which can be instituted in your municipality easily.

The sponsor for Ride the Right Way Day, Genesis Bicycles is a shop that leads the country in their commitment to bicycle education and bicycle culture.  Every day during the biking season there are rides led from the shop in downtown Easton by League of American Bicyclists certified Cycling Instructors.  All riders and bikes are checked out by seasoned professionals before every ride.  All riders view a special slide show on just what you need to know to stay safe while riding.  See the Genesis Bicycles website for more information about these rides:  http://genesisbicycles.com/page.cfm?PageID=19.  Genesis is so committed to bicycle culture in the Lehigh Valley that they contribute a portion of the profit on every bike and helmet they sell to CAT’s bicycle education programming.
