On March 15, 2015, Steve Schmitt passed away due to illness. Steve was founder and CAT Director for 20+ years, originator of countless initiatives to support transit riders, pedestrians and bicyclists as an endangered, yet vital species. Steve inspired us to challenge ourselves on own car-dependent conventions - to live CAR-FREE to mitigate traffic snarls and to discover health through physical activity and cleaner air & water from reduced gasoline and diesel emissions. Spanning gaps of social, race and economic proportions, Steve was a champion for celebrating community through human-scale existence, living life to the fullest to create real, necessary change for the better.
